Yesterday we finally (not without the characteristic Jess and Cam mishaps!) sent out invitations. What a moment it was – completed by the fact I had no idea you had to pre-order ‘pretty’ wedding stamps! Consequently and to further add to that little ordeal (or the humour of the moment my darling optimist fiancé would say) the ‘theme’ on Australia post stamps at the moment is Farming Australia. So, friends and family who have patiently waited for one of these little gems to arrive in your letterbox, your carefully designed and delicately hand sealed invitations are indeed complete with a merino, beef cattle, sugar can or orange growers stamp. Cameron dear says it goes with the vintage theme. It doesn’t. And thinking on it gosh I hope I didn't put a ‘Beef Cattle’ stamp on invites headed to any of my dear vego friends. Ooops.
Lots of stamps to lick |
I hope we are starting to be organised. I have mentioned already that, surprisingly enough for a twenty-four year old, I haven’t done this before, but we are forever doing wedding stuff at the moment so that means we are getting there right? We have a theme and colours, invites are out and I have a dress – what more is there to do?
Our biggest drama so far has been the guest list. When you are live in a different state to where you when to uni and you went to uni in a different place to where you went to school and in Cameron’s case you went to school in a different place to where you grew up, you have had the opportunity to meet lots of different people. Many of those people have been incredibly good to you over the years. Add in there a large (L-A-R-G-E) family on Cameron’s side, enough step family between us to make a staircase and quite ‘traditional’ expectations on who will be invited, creating a teeny tiny intimate guest list without feeling like a horrible human, sucks. In fact, it was impossible. There were wayyyyy tooo many people on the list and wayyyyy to many people to keep happy about the list. Any notions of small went out the window.
To be honest, neither of us mind all that much. Although every person, weddsite and magazine told us to do what made us happy, that was a lot easier said than done. There did have to be a bit of ground standing as far as family expectations went, however I think the only reason why we ended up with a bigger than planned guest list is that there are lot of people sharing the joy of our marriage. Keeping them happy keeps us happy. I am actually quite excited to have so many people whom have helped make Cam and I who we are in the one place. It has taken a village (or maybe a mega-city?) to raise these two 'children' and I want as many of them as possible to be with us on the best day of our lives!
One of the things where we have really stuck to our guns however was our wedding providers. It is common knowledge that you add the ‘W’ word to anything and you can triple the price and add a bit. Not only this, but I quickly learned there are lot of people working in the industry that seem to see what they do as purely business. This is one of the biggest reasons Cam and I decided we wanted to get married in Tasmania. The majority of people who will be part of our special day are people we have known for a long time, have special significance to us or are people we have found because they are known by family or friends to be awesome at what they do. This is important to us because it makes every little detail all the more special and gives greater peace of mind that things will go to plan on the day. It is humbling that the wonderful man marrying us was also our school chaplain and our extremely talented photographer is a family friend whom has photographed our most significant achievements during our school years. We also feel very blessed and excited that many of these people have chosen to support our wedding charity HIAM Health with a donation of goods/services. It means the world to us!
In the coming weeks I will be introducing you to some of them so keep an eye out! I am hoping to ask some of them to share their secrets of the wedding industry as well as a bit about why I think they are so great at what they do! We are also in the process of getting a bit of a bloggy-botox and will reveal a new look (which may or may not match our wedding colours) really soon! In the meantime, I would love any wedding tips you have for our final months of planning. I am counting the days!
