Another step in the creation of our urban garden. Recycled steel rio was perfect to create some vertical space and now the addition of hanging boxes will be ideal for growing herbs. This idea came to me the other evening about 11pm after getting home from the hospital, and while the idea was fresh I started work. We are lucky to have an understanding neighbour who claims to be comforted by my building noises while he sits up creating all sorts of amazing disney inspired art!
The vertical beds (or boxes) are being built out of unused timber from under the apartment which keeps the carbon foot print of the project down by being able to reuse products. It matches with an eco friendly aim to growing our own food where we can. This structure also acts as a privacy wall, wind break and most importantly added shade for during the summer months. When dealing with small spaces it is important that things are multi prurose to enable us to utilise the space to its best advantage.
